Year 10 students at Pipers have recently launched an inspiring new charity initiative, choosing to support the locally run organisation Lives in Focus.

During the first half of the Spring Term, students learned about the charity’s vital work and its mission to ensure that every child has access to the essentials they need to thrive. Lives in Focus supports children around the world by improving access to basic classroom resources, creating opportunities beyond the classroom, and, crucially, helping to ensure that no child goes hungry.

The year group was fortunate to hear directly from the charity’s founder, who visited Pipers to speak about the impact of the organisation’s work and the difference that even small acts of generosity can make. Inspired by the visit, Year 10 students have chosen to champion the charity and share its mission with the wider Senior School community.

As part of this partnership, Pipers is proud to be twinned with Rongoma Primary School in Tanzania. Through this meaningful relationship, students and staff will support Rongoma Primary School by raising much‑needed funds, while also learning more about the lives, experiences and education of the students and teachers there. Over time, the partnership will allow the Pipers community to see the tangible impact of its fundraising efforts as the relationship develops.

The charity has shared just how powerful even modest donations can be:

  • £35 provides a school desk and chair
  • £21.88 feeds one child for an entire year

This has led Year 10 students to pose an inspiring question: could the Pipers community help to set up an entire classroom in Tanzania?

To support the initiative, Year 10 students have planned a programme of fundraising activities that will take place between now and the end of the academic year, giving the whole School community the opportunity to get involved and make a lasting difference.
