Whole School Art

In preparation for our Cultural Celebration Week this year, our Pipers community put their creative hats on and decorated a number of chairs to celebrate the richness and importance of cultures.

The students in Pre-Prep were given a chair to paint, Prep another, and in the Senior School, one chair was given to each Year Group and sprayed with colourful base colours before the designing began. The artwork was sketched on top with pictures to refer to, using a wide range of posca pens to add colour and detail.

The chosen cultures for the chairs included South America (Pre-Prep), Africa (Prep), Italy (Year 7), Greece (Year 8), Japan (Year 9), Spain (Year 10), Syria (Year 12), Australia and New Zealand (Staff). The community participated in painting their beautiful chair in lessons, club activities, breaktime and after school.

During our recent Prep Book Look event, we had parents, grandparents and younger siblings add to the chair, making it a full community activity, taking inspiration from traditional patterns in South Africa, used by the Ndebele people to decorate artwork, houses and beadwork.

This cultural chair installation is on display now for Cultural Celebration Week. We also look forward to seeing them again at the annual Art, Textiles and Design Exhibition (Thursday 19 June 2025) and potentially exhibiting them at the Wycombe (Chair) Museum.
