Junior And Senior Dance Show Success

Did you come to see our magnificent students in their Junior and Senior Dance shows? If you did then you will know what a triumph they were. 

This year’s themes were Fairy tales and Fables and Tales of Enchantment – books are often an inspiration when it comes to creating our dance shows, and these other-worldly themes made for some wonderful set design and costume creations.

This year was extra special as it had a cross-curricular focus with Art, where depictions of Aesop’s Fables created by Prep Art were projected on to the stage. Dance productions have previously collaborated with Textiles, English and even Science.

The process of putting on these productions always feel like a ‘coming together’ of year groups and experiences. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Sixth Form Students (and not necessarily dance students), to assist the younger ones in class and help them with rehearsals.

The backstage comradery is quite electric – the Senior students are often helping the Junior students with hair and costumes and a tech team of students act as Runners and Stage Managers to ensure the smooth running of the production – it really is a whole School effort.

A joyful addition to this year’s shows were the introduction of the ‘Rebecca Lewis Curtain Awards’. Rebecca is the Year 13 Dance subject leader and a Senior Prefect – it was her suggestion that a range of contributions towards the successful production of a show should be celebrated and rewarded. As a result, performers in the Junior and Senior productions were awarded for:

Biggest encourager, most helpful backstage, most enthusiastic, tidiest costume rail, commitment to Dance, and helpers of year groups who aren’t their own.

This year was also the first year that we have performed on a Sunday – two sell-out showings – which we hope to continue in the future. It was very special to see generations of family coming to support their loved ones.
