Pipers Drama Department's Unforgettable Summer Trip To New York

Pipers Drama department embarked on a memorable journey to New York City over the summer.  With 25 enthusiastic students in tow, this educational expedition was filled with an array of theatrical experiences, from behind-the-scenes tours to mesmerising performances, planned to provide the students with a comprehensive immersion into the world of theatre, film and television in North America.

One of the early highlights of the trip was a TV coach tour that took the students to famous filming locations across the city including the iconic Friends apartment.  A visit to the legendary Carnegie Hall followed, where students not only learned about the rich history of this iconic venue but also marvelled at its incredible acoustics.

Of course, no visit to New York City would be complete without experiencing the magic of Broadway, and Pipers Drama Department saw two outstanding  performances, 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' and 'Hadestown'.  These top-tier productions left the students in awe, the enthusiasm was so infections that the soundtracks became the entertainment for their subway rides, transforming the underground journey into a spontaneous sing-along session.  The first-hand experience of these productions will undoubtedly inform and enrich their creative endeavours back at School.

The trip was designed to broaden the horizons of our GCSE and A Level Drama students and one of the most impactful moments of the trip was an encounter with a seasoned dancer from the renowned Rockettes.  This accomplished artist shared her inspiring personal career journey offering valuable insights into the real-world possibilities that await them in the world of theatre.
