It was a joyful start to the week at Pipers with the whole school joining together to share a service led by School Chaplain, Rev. Gurr, on the theme of “Joy”!

A Whole School Service provides a fantastic opportunity for all year groups to come together and focus on a given topic. As in previous years, the service was intended to be held outside on the school lawn, however the weather had other plans and the service had to be moved inside to the Sports Hall. Thankfully the cold weather did not adversely affect the girls’ enthusiasm for what was an energetic and music-filled occasion.

Rev. Gurr talked to the girls about how everyone should try to do things for the joy of it. She encouraged those gathered to put their worries aside, to look at the wonderful world we live in with fresh eyes, and be thankful for everything we have. To illustrate her point Rev Gurr asked volunteers to build a “worry wall” out of boxes. This was then knocked down by girls playing the part of joy, demonstrating how anxiety can be overcome if we try to let our worries go.

During the service there were performances from each section of the school. The Senior Singing Group sang “The Lord’s my Shepherd” by Stuart Townend and the Pre-Prep Department shared a lovely rendition of “Our God is a Great Big God”. Prep girls had also written prayers which they read to the rest of the school. A highlight of the event was an impressive group dance from the Year 9 GCSE Dance class, to the rousing song, “Joyful Joyful”.
