The LGBTQ+ History Month 2023 celebrates directors, cinematographers, screen writers, producers, animators, costume designers and many more besides – designed as an opportunity to look ‘Behind the Lense’ at a time when LGBTQ+ lives are in the media, so as to understand lived experiences beyond the ones we see on screen.

At Pipers we are taking February as a time to acknowledge and celebrate our LGBTQ+ community, not only through opportunities such as gathering at our weekly extra-curricular club ‘LGBTQ+ and Friends’, to discuss what pride means to our school community, but also through student-led conversations on the importance of inclusion and acceptance.

To kick-start awareness, members of our Diversity and Inclusion committee hosted a drive-time radio show on Pipers Radio with educational and informative discussions focused on ‘queerness’ in literature, film, tv and mythology. All of our staff and students are welcome to wear the progressive pride pin on their lanyards if they would like to, as a symbol to all students of a willingness to talk about the communities and themes represented in this forward-thinking pride flag.

We try to keep education at the forefront of our communications so that Pipers remains an inclusive space, promoting acceptance and respect for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our History Committee will be screening an LGBTQ+ film to celebrate the talents of the pride community behind the screen. We wholeheartedly support our students who are fostering an accepting and diverse society for everyone.
