Girls in the Pre-Prep Department became explorers on Wednesday when they spent a morning in the “Rainforest”. Through a range of creative experiences including puzzles, craft, song and imaginative play the girls learnt about the variety of animals that can be found in Rainforests across the world.

The morning began with an interactive storytelling session led by a professional storyteller. The girls followed the story of Sophie who, having received a Tiger for her birthday, wanted to know where tigers came from. And so began their imaginative journey into the Rainforest, where they danced like Gorillas, hissed like snakes, sang like frogs and met lots of other animals along the way!

Following the story session the girls participated in a selection of rainforest themed tasks and activities. The groups created animals from junk modelling materials and learnt and sang a Rainforest song which included a number of Rainforest facts. They also raced against the clock, working in teams, to assemble three different jigsaw puzzles of a Toucan, a Tiger and an Orang-utan. Finally it was out into the Pre-Prep play area for a Rainforest animal treasure hunt!

Our storytelling and activity themed mornings, which we aim to hold once a term, really serve to engage the girls in a cross-curricular way, stimulating their imaginations and helping them to learn more about the wider world around them.
