Pipers girls demonstrated fantastic levels of skill at the IAPS & GSA Girls Judo Competition held at High Wycombe Judo Centre on Saturday, with each girl coming home with a medal. To cap off some superb individual success, the girls from Pipers also claimed the overall Girls School Team Trophy – a brilliant result!

Jemima H (Year 7) won three out of her four fights to win a Gold medal in her category. Bethany W (Year 7) also fought incredibly well, showing great attitude to come away with Gold.

Nicole W (Year 6) also made it through to her Gold medal fight. She was ahead in the bout until the last few seconds when she was unfortunately caught by her opponent, leaving her to claim Silver.

Alicia W (Year 10) had three fights at U63kg and came away with a Silver medal after winning the last two by ippon.

Imogen J (Year 7) faced lots of competition in her weight group, however she showed fantastic determination, fighting through to gain a well-fought Bronze medal.

The following day Bethany W (Year 7) and Nicole W (Year 6) continued where they left off with another set of impressive performances on the mats at the British Schools Regional Championships. The girls took Silver and Gold respectively and, in doing so, have both secured a spot at the National Finals taking place at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield in April.

Head of PE, Miss Poore, said “We are all incredibly proud of the girls and all that they achieved at the weekend. Coming away with the Team Trophy was an awesome result and is a real testament to the work the girls have put in during training. We can’t wait to see how Bethany and Nicole get on at the National Finals later this year.”
