History detectives

Girls in Year 1 have been developing their skills in history this year, learning how to use historical sources to gain an understanding of the lives of significant figures from the past who have contributed to national and international life.

This week their focus has been on Queen Elizabeth II as they worked together to discover what makes her an important part of the history of the United Kingdom, and indeed the World. The girls began with a portrait of the Queen as a stimulus and following this they delved into the Queen’s past, finding out about the events in her life and ordering them into a timeline.

Their final challenge was to write their own versions of a biography of the Queen for “The Royal Times” detailing everything they had learnt about the Queen and her long reign as our current Monarch.
