From Lockdown to GCSE success: Pipers students celebrate outstanding results

Students at Pipers Corner School are celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results, with almost two thirds of all grades awarded at 7–9 – equivalent to the former A*/A grades – and an increase in top grades compared with last year.

In English Language, almost 80% of the Year Group achieved grades 7–9, while Fine Art and Food Preparation & Nutrition also saw 80% of results at these top grades. Business, Geography, History and Religious Studies performed particularly strongly too.

For this cohort of students, reaching results day with so much to celebrate feels especially significant. They were only in Year 5 when schools closed due to COVID in March 2020, with disruption continuing into their final year of primary school.

Headmistress Helen Ness-Gifford said: 

“It has been wonderful to celebrate with our students, as well as their families and their teachers in school this morning and we are very proud of them all. They approached their GCSE examinations with remarkable confidence and composure, and this shows in their results.

“We know our students as individuals, and success means different things for different girls. Alongside some truly exceptional grades are results which we know have taken enormous determination to achieve. Both deserve to be celebrated. Examination results are important, but they are only one part of what success looks like at Pipers.

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming the majority of these students into the Sixth Form in September and to seeing what they will go on to achieve. Together with students joining us from other schools, following exceptional demand for places, they will be part of the largest Sixth Form in the School’s 96-year history.”
