Remembering the Holocaust - 01/02/12

Girls in Year 9 spent an interesting day at the Imperial War Museum in London recently. During the course of their visit the girls explored the Holocaust Exhibition, which traces the persecution of Europe's Jews from 1933 to 1945. They also found out what life was like for the men who fought in World War 1, experiencing an evocative recreation of being in a trench on the Somme, complete with the sounds and smells of trench warfare.

Drama students in Years 10, 11 and 12 were challenged to consider some difficult questions this week when they watched a performance of a brand new adaptation of "Medea" by Euripides, from touring theatre company, Splendid Productions.

Boarders at Pipers Corner School discovered that it can be fun in the forest recently as they took part in an adventure day in the woodland on the school grounds. Forest School is a new initiative being run at Pipers Corner within the Pre-Prep Department and the Boarders decided that they wanted to know what it was all about.

Girls in Year One learnt all about the benefits of teamwork recently as they were introduced to the classic story of "The Enormous Turnip". Using Drama, English and Art the girls discovered that great things can be achieved by working together.

Father Christmas gave his reindeer some time off on the first weekend in December, arriving at the Pipers Corner Christmas Fair in style, by helicopter. It was a very exciting beginning to a really wonderful morning full of festive delight.

The countdown to Christmas started at Pipers Corner this week as the Prep and Pre-Prep Departments staged their Christmas Concerts. The Prep girls showed their versatility through a mixture of dance, music and poetry, whilst the younger girls staged a traditional nativity complete with oodles of charm.
