Whole School Service - 27/06/08

The first contemporary whole school service took place this morning. Thankfully the sun was shining which enabled us to hold the service outside on the lawn and terrace. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to come and share together as a whole school community as we near the end of the academic year.

Singing along to electric guitars and drums, rather than the usual piano music it was a chance for the girls to really celebrate the school community and reflect as they start to look ahead to the new challenges they will all be facing from September.

Led by the School Chaplain, Rev Mary Gurr, the theme of the service was "Moving On" and was a consideration of how to approach the future and how to deal with everyday things which we all worry about.

The main address was given by Janice Pettipher, who spoke to the girls a little about her own life and the new challenges she will be facing as she takes up a new post as Chaplain with the Royal Navy. She urged the girls not to spend too much time worrying about things they cannot change but to place their trust in God and His power to take them down the right paths.

This was quite a different approach to a school service, but it brought Pipers worship firmly up to date and it made a real impact on the girls and staff – and probably anyone else in the vicinity of the school at the time!
