Pipers Pre-Prep girls went on an exciting African Safari during a recent school trip to London Zoo. Some animals tested the girls' powers of observation as they were hiding in their houses or camouflaged in their surroundings but they did manage to see lots of different species. Particular favourites were the giraffes with their long eyelashes and graceful movements.

As well as the African animals the girls also paid a visit to Gorilla Kingdom where they saw a big male gorilla and two smaller females. There was also an enormous monitor lizard and lots of monkeys agilely jumping from branch to branch. Particularly popular was the mother monkey with her baby clinging on to her stomach.
|
Next stop were the big cats. Unfortunately there was no sign of the tiger who could not be seen anywhere in his enclosure but the male lion was having a lovely sleep on a platform.
After lunch the girls split into two groups. Years 1 and 2 learnt about the differences in skin coverings in mammals, birds and reptiles. The looked at lots of different skin coverings including an enormous snake skin, a crocodile skin and stuffed alligator, a tortoise and a turtle shell, a leopard, zebra and kangaroo skin and a variety of feathers.

Meanwhile Reception and Pre-Reception girls went to the Activity Den where they found out the life story of Abi the lion cub. They were also lucky enough to go and visit some beautiful tropical butterflies.
