Fantastic UIII Performances - 04/07/08

Girls in UIII1 and UIII2 put in some outstanding performances at the annual UIII show this week with their mini productions of "The Wizard of Oz" and "Bugsy Malone".

Beginning with UIII2 we travelled with Dorothy to the land of Oz. Then along with the Munchkins, the scarecrow, the tin man and the lion went on a journey to find the wonderful Wizard of Oz so that the scarecrow could get his brain, the tin man - a heart and the lion - some courage. Along with other memorable songs there was a fantastic rendition of "Somewhere over the rainbow" which Dorothy sang with real feeling. We also encountered the wicked witches with their very evil sounding cackles! Thankfully the good witches were there to save the day and show Dorothy and the gang where to find the Wizard and most importantly of all help Dorothy to get back home.

From the yellow brick road we moved to the mean streets of downtown Chicago with UIII1's performance of "Bugsy Malone". Fat Sam and his gang stood their ground in a show down with Dandy Dan as he tried to protect his Speakeasy from being overrun by members of Dan's gang. Meanwhile Tallulah and the other girls from the Speakeasy watched on as Bugsy fell in love with the new starlet at Fat Sam's – Blousey Brown. Some great songs were included in the show including a well choreographed "Bad Guys", the emotive "Tomorrow" and ensemble piece, "Fat Sam's Grand Slam".

Drama teacher Mrs Halton who directed UIII said, "Every single girl has risen above her capabilities and I'm very proud of them all. There were some wonderful performances – very well done to all the girls."
