Four budding scientists represented Pipers Corner at Salters' Festival of Chemistry at Reading University last week. The girls took on roles of forensic scientists and space engineers as they competed in the challenges set by Reading University Lecturers.

The four MIV students (Year 8) involved were Rachel Atwell, Brooklyn Thirkettle, Charlotte Wilding and Sophie Wilkinson. Whilst being observed by the lecturers, the girls completed two "chemical challenges".
They were forensic scientists in the morning, analysing evidence from the scene of a robbery and deciding on a possible suspect. Then in the afternoon they became space engineers, preparing engine coolant for a space ship!
Mrs Cresswell, Science teacher at Pipers said "I am incredibly proud of the girls and the way they behaved. They were so well organised, listened to each other very well and demonstrated the most fantastic team work."
|
It was a very exciting and demanding day for the girls and they produced an impressive crime report for the morning challenge, earning a well deserved 81%. With this high mark they came extremely close to winning! All four girls should be very proud of their teamwork, accuracy and overall competence.
