Pipers is Alive with the Sound of Music - 10/10/08

Pipers Corner School really is alive with the sound of music as a second Pipers girl, Laura Owen (12), prepares to tread the boards in the West End production of "The Sound of Music" at the London Palladium.

Starting in November, Laura will be playing the role of Louisa Von Trapp, and will be part of one of three children's teams who currently perform – each doing three days of performances followed by a break of seven days.

Laura's success follows that of fellow Pipers pupil, Grace Gifford (8) who is currently performing as Marta, the second youngest Von Trapp child.

Both girls are taught singing at Pipers by teacher Elen Môn Wayne who is delighted that two of her students have achieved just recognition of their talent. They each went through a very tough audition process against strong competition from stage school pupils and were extremely excited when they were offered their parts.

Mrs Hilary Murphy, Deputy Headmistress at Pipers Corner School said, "We are delighted that not one but two Pipers girls have been selected for roles in this world-class production. Theatre, Drama and Music are very popular at Pipers and the girls' success just goes to show that with talent and the help of inspirational teachers you really can achieve special things."
