Girls in Pre-Prep and Prep were excited to welcome the Image Musical Theatre Group to Pipers today for a workshop and performance of a production called "The Selfish Giant", a short story by Oscar Wilde.

The first part of the morning was taken up by a half hour rehearsal for the audience in which the girls learnt the words and actions to some of the songs from the show, such as "Bring in the Harvest", so that they could join in with the main performance.

At the same time a lucky group of 11 girls were chosen to perform as villagers and the Giant's Wall and left the main group to rehearse their roles!

After the rehearsal there was a small break whilst the Landau Hall was magically transformed into the Giant's Garden and Castle with a wonderful and imaginative set. Then the main action began.

It was a truly interactive performance that involved all of the girls singing along as well as the lucky ones who had actual parts on stage. The girls were enthralled by the story of the Giant whose selfishness meant that he was lonely and unhappy until a moment of realisation led to his redemption and ultimate happiness because he learnt how to be generous.

Head of Prep, Mrs Doran, said, "Taking part in an Image Musical Theatre Group workshop is a great way for the girls to really get involved in a story and experience interactive theatre. I could tell by their faces that the girls really loved being part of the show, especially the girls who got to dress up in costume."
