Girls in LIV (Year 7) and MIV (Year 8) were delighted to welcome Gary and Alan from The Simon Community to Pipers today to accept gift donations that the girls have been collecting for homeless people this Christmas.

The Simon Community is a partnership of homeless people and volunteers living and working together to reach out to, support and campaign for people who are homeless or rootless, and particularly those for whom no other provision exists. Together they provide dedicated support 365 days a year to London's street homeless.

Gary and Alan spoke to the girls at morning assembly to tell them a bit about their work and exactly how The Simon Community supports people by providing hot food, drinks and clothes to homeless people on a regular basis in Central London. They also spoke of the extra provision they provide at Christmas including helping people to find shelter during the cold winter months.

Following assembly Gary and Alan spent some time in morning lessons with the girls before accepting the gifts the girls had collected from the Form Captains and Vice Captains. Included in the donation were canned and packet foods, some luxury items, gloves, hats and sleeping bags.

Mrs Gledhill, Teacher of Religious Education said, "It is a wonderful for the girls to meet representatives from The Simon Community and hear first-hand how their donations really do make a difference to the lives of homeless people."
