The annual bonfire and fireworks party took place at Pipers Corner on Saturday 8 November. With over 700 people in attendance we were delighted to welcome so many members of the Pipers Community to share together and enjoy some warming winter food as well as a magnificent bonfire and fireworks display.
The event was organised by Pipers BTEC Hospitality students as part of the Business Operation Module of their qualification. They not only took responsibility for organising the catering but also arranged all the pre-event publicity, ticket sales and entertainment for the evening. This included compiling detailed project budgets, the logistical planning of the evening, and ensuring that the correct risk assessments and health and safety checks had taken place. Ably assisted by the Pipers Catering staff and the Grounds and Maintenance Team who also put in an enormous amount of effort, the girls managed to put on an exceptional evening of entertainment.
Guests at the bonfire enjoyed a choice of jacket potatoes, chilli and hotdogs followed by doughnuts, marshmallows and traditional toffee apples. For the adults there was also mulled wine which helped them to keep warm on a very chilly evening! In addition Milton House ran a stall selling glow sticks and necklaces and raised a brilliant £88 for the charities they are supporting: Roald Dahl Foundation, Diabetes U.K., Alzheimer's Society and St Wilfred's Hospice. It was great to see so many young people glowing in the dark!

The bonfire which stood an amazing 30 feet high was an amazing spectacle to see as it was lit and the "guys" made by the boarders at Pipers were thrown on to it. The fireworks display provided a great deal of enjoyment for the crowd, despite the fact that they had to look up into a somewhat rainy sky.

Hospitality teacher, Mrs Clark said "Having completed this very involved function, largely unassisted, it is clear to me just how capable the students are. They worked very hard in very difficult weather conditions. I am immensely proud of all that they have achieved."
