On Wednesday 8 October LIV1 (Year 7) had an innovative hands-on Geography lesson using potatoes to learn about contours and landscape.
During the lesson the girls used large jacket potatoes to represent islands. As part of their understanding of how contours represent the landscape, they "sailed" to Potato Island, where they carried out a contour survey.

They then "flew over" the island for a bird's eye view in order to draw a contour sketch map of their own island. Geography teacher, Mr Green, then sliced the island in two, to reveal the cross-section which the girls were able to survey with their rulers before drawing round the cut surface to reveal a perfect cross-section drawing.
Anyone for chips?
