Over 60 Pipers girls performed at the Watford Festival which took place over the course of last weekend. With performances from Senior Vocal Group, Junior Choir and Consort it was a very busy but productive two days with the Senior Vocal group gaining a highly creditable 2nd place in their category.
The Senior Vocal Group competed on Saturday and performed "We've only just begun" (Williams/Nichols) and "Man! I feel like a woman" (Twain/Lange). Their performance was excellent and the girls were thrilled by the recognition of their efforts with their 2nd place.
Junior Choir and Consort took part on Sunday and despite some wonderful performances unfortunately both groups came away unplaced.
The Junior Choir in particular faced some stiff competition with a number of outstanding choirs in their class. Their programme was "I have a dream" (Andersson/Ulvaeus) and "Gonna Build a Mountain" (Newley/Bricusse arr. Marsh).

Consort were also very unlucky not to be placed as the general feeling amongst the watching Pipers supporters was that they sang well enough to gain a higher position with their programme which was "The Peace of God" (Rutter) and "Like a Singing Bird" (Chilcott). The choirs in their group which gained the top two places were enormous and were able to create an impressive sound in the large hall.
After the event Mr Lloyd, Director of Music at Pipers said "As always the girls represented their school admirably and they should be very proud of their achievements after all the hard work that was put in to prepare for their performances."
