Pre-Prep girls at Pipers Corner School enjoyed a range of Mexican themed activities last week as they learnt about Mexico and Mexican culture and customs as part of their lessons. The Year One class (PP1) spent the week exploring various aspects of Mexico including food, the environment and Mexican History. The week culminated in a special assembly by the PP1 girls to the rest of the girls in Pre-Prep.
They began the assembly by singing a song in Spanish which translated as "Hello, how are you? I'm fine thank you". They then went on to show the other girls where Mexico is in the world and what the Mexican flag looks like. They had also each brought in examples of foods that originated in Mexico including guacamole, avocado, tortillas, and best of all, chocolate!

Other things the girls told the watching group about included how they had played a traditional Mexican ball game in their P.E lesson, during which players had to pass a rubber ball to their teammates using their hips, elbows, or legs, without letting it run into the other side's end of the court. In their art class they had drawn pictures of the Mexican poinsettia flower and made Aztec Shields. They also showed pictures they had drawn of the various landscapes and environments found in Mexico and the type of animals that live there.

The girls ended the assembly with a dance they had learnt in their ballet class. It was beautifully performed and ended with a very enthusiastic "Ole!" which the rest of the girls and the teachers thoroughly enjoyed.
