Edinburgh Lacrosse Tour - 16/01/09

The Pipers Corner Senior Lacrosse Team went on tour to Edinburgh in January 2009. Here the tour Captain tell us what it was like to go on tour and how they did in their matches.

On Friday 16 January, the Senior Lacrosse Team met, bright and early, at Heathrow airport. After a long wait in departures and a nice breakfast in Costa we boarded the plane and set off for Edinburgh. We were staying in a hotel, just round the corner from the famous shopping parade, "Princes Street" and 40 minutes away from Loretto School, the hosts of the tournament.

On the Friday evening we had a very productive training session. The team improved so much and it meant we all felt prepared and very excited for the tournament the next day. We had a short "pre-match" meeting after dinner where the captains spoke and motivated the team with a positive plan for the next day.

Saturday morning, 8.30am, all fifteen players and three coaches were on the bus on the way to Loretto. Our first match was against Queen Margaret's School - it was a close match and we drew 3-3. Our next match was against Moreton Hall, a strong team. We struggled to keep up in the first half but we managed to pick up our game even though we ended up losing with a score of 1-5.

Our third match against Glenalmond was 2-0 loss, however in the fourth against St. Georges we achieved a 6-1 win! Overall the games did not go as well as we would have liked but we learnt from our mistakes and came back to play together as a team for our final two games against North London College (4-2 Win) and Queen Margaret's School (3-1 Loss).

All in all we played extremely well and were very pleased with our end position of 6th place in the tournament and 4th in our division.

After the tournament we headed back to our hotel for a rest before getting ready for dinner. We headed out to Edinburgh's best pizza place and had a lovely meal with the entire team, laughing and joking about the weekend's events and other funny memories.

When we got back to the hotel, the coaches took us into a room and presented the awards for the tournament. All the girls had voted for the players they had felt had worked hard and had full dedication in the games that day.

  • Awesome Attacker of the Tournament - Jess Davies
  • Dynamic Defender of the Tournament – Jo Hart
  • Players Player of the Tournament – Antonia Hudson
  • Coaches Player of the Tournament – Victoria Williams-Gray
  • Unsung Hero of the Tournament - Jade Wilkinson

All of the girls played extremely well and should be very proud of their achievements. As well as some players seeing significant improvements in their lacrosse skills, many of us also made new friends, and we all enjoyed being part of a team which really pulled together to achieve a great result.
