On an unseasonably warm September day all the girls in Year 8 (MIV) had the opportunity to visit the amazing Hindu temple at Neasden. The building is wonderfully impressive; one can almost imagine that one is in India when first viewing the Mandir.

In the course of the day pupils produced some impressive sketches, observed a sacred fire (arti) ceremony and had the opportunity to hear at first-hand what it means to be a Hindu in Britain in 2009.

There was also an excellent shopping opportunity for bindis and bracelets!

Comments from the girls:

"After my trip to the temple, I would like to find out more about other temples around the world, and also more information about the Gods and their individual stories." Leona

"The best part for me was having the experience of being at a Hindu festival and having to put my hand near the candle flame and over my head. This means that God has blessed you." Megan

"I felt very privileged to be able to go inside and watch a ceremony of such importance to people of the Hindu faith." Ellie

"It was really interesting to see the differences between a Christian and Hindu service." Millie

"It was an amazing sight. As I had never seen a Hindu Temple I didn't know what to expect, but I had no idea it was going to be as big and as grand as this." Eve
