Year 7 Visit to St Albans Cathedral - 02/10/09

On Friday 2 October Year 7 (LIV) girls thoroughly enjoyed their first Pipers Corner RS visit to St Albans Cathedral.

This was an RS visit with a difference. For half of the day the girls imagined they were back in medieval England, and using simple costumes and props became knights, ladies, nuns and merchants. We had shepherds, candle makers and even burglars on the pilgrimage tour! The girls lit candles at the St Albans Shrine before returning to a 21st Century picnic lunch in the crypt.

The second half of the day was spent observing the use of signs and symbols in the Cathedral, before producing clay tiles, which will be displayed at open evening and on open day. Cathedral staff were very impressed with the quality of work produced by the girls.

The visit will not only be of value to girls completing RS assignments, but will also enhance their learning both in History and Art.
