This year's Pipers ski trip took place in New Hampshire, USA. It got off to a great start with beautiful snowy conditions for the first days skiing and thankfully all the girls made it down the mountain in one piece on their first outing!

On the second day unfortunately there was a lot of rain which made the morning skiing quite difficult with visibility at practically zero with so much fog in the mountains. By lunchtime everyone was drenched but everyone was still happy although there were a few sprains and bruises caused by the tricky conditions. By the afternoon the fog had lifted a little. A couple of our so called "beginners" were seen hurtling down the slopes at kamikaze speeds, much to the amusement of the onlookers!

The instructor for the advanced group commented that the girls in his group were not only the most able skiers from the UK he had ever taught, but that they were also the most attentive, polite and well behaved group he had led as well.

The intermediate group clearly did not want to be outdone so they signed up for a little slalom down an official timed slalom track! All this from a group of girls that were only just starting to parallel ski 4 days before.

The beginner groups also stepped up the pace and decided that they would try and tackle some of the more challenging runs on the mountain. This is no small feat - ask any instructor and they will tell you, leading a lower ability group around the mountain is hard work. You try snowploughing down runs for an entire morning and you will quickly see how hard you are working your muscles. These girls did this and were still laughing and joking after each run!

At the end of 5 days of enjoyable ski the girls headed to an overnight stop in New Jersey on the way to a final stop in New York. At dinner the following trip awards were presented:

  • Best Boarder: Josie Owen
  • Most Improved Skier: Jo Hart
  • Skier of the Week: Jade Wilkinson (Jade wins this award for the second consecutive ski trip!)

The final day of the trip was spent in New York where the girls visited lots of the famous sights including Times Square, the Empire State Building, Macy's and Central Park.

At the end of the trip Mrs Collins said "We all had a great trip to the USA and have many happy memories of our time. I know that I am looking forward to our next trip, to Austria in February 2009. I do hope that you will want to join us for more fun! Only 350 or so days to go!"
