Girls and staff at Pipers came together throughout the whole of last week to take part in a huge range of activities to raise as much money as possible to support the BBC's annual Children in Need Appeal. From cake sales to a performance from our very own version of "Jedward" there were activities on offer for girls in all years.

Throughout the day there were many opportunities for girls to get involved. The fun started in assembly when the girls found out that through their efforts in the preceding days they had managed to meet a fundraising target which meant that six members of staff had to dress up as Pipers girls for the day. As the group included Mr Gifford and Mr Lloyd it certainly caused a huge amount of hilarity in the hall! Ms Maassen and Miss Easterbrook also got into the spirit of the day by dressing up in return for donations.

At morning break there was a Year 11 cake sale and in the dining room girls had the chance to treat themselves to a hot chocolate, thanks to the efforts of the school catering staff.

At lunchtime activities included a "Guess the number of sweets in the jar" competition, busking by some of our talented musicians, a Pudsey Bear cake raffle which was won by Harley Riley in Year 3 (LII) and a Sixth Form Pizza Party. Also perhaps one of the day's highlights – a tribute performance by two Sixth Form girls, Heather and Zoe, as John and Edward from the X Factor. Other events taking place outside of school included a sponsored run, a Year 10 sponsored silence and a sponsored row by Year 10 student, Charlotte Wilding.

In total the amount of money raised by these activities for the charity so far stands at approximately £1500. This figure is set to rise over the next week as more of the sponsorship money comes in. An amazing achievement for everyone involved.

Headmistress, Mrs Ness-Gifford said, "I was extremely impressed by the terrific effort shown by girls and staff alike this year as they joined together to support this very important cause. I am so glad that as a community we have been able to raise so much money and also had fun doing so!"
