On Monday Pipers Corner School was delighted to welcome pianist, Anna Markland and violinist, Catherine van de Geest to perform. The musicians entertained the girls in Prep, Year 7 and Year 8 during an afternoon workshop before the main recital performance in the evening.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to experience a professional recital and Anna and Catherine also talked to them about the pieces they played and a little about their lives as professional musicians.

Anna, who has been active in the classical music world for over twenty five years, was also the winner of the 1982 BBC TV "Young Musician of the Year" Competition. She currently performs as guest soloist with professional, amateur and youth orchestras throughout the UK. Catherine is a freelance violinist with major London orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

The evening recital for an audience of paying guests included pieces by composers including Mozart, Debussy, Stravinsky and Brahms. Music Director, Mr Phillip Lloyd, said "It is such a pleasure to welcome talented musicians such as Anna and Catherine to perform at Pipers. It is a wonderful experience for the girls to see these musicians play and I'm sure it will inspire many of them in their own musical endeavours."

Further recitals will be taking place next year and details will be published on the school website as soon as they are available.
