Amazing Ash Girl - 30/11/09

Good triumphed over evil last week through the drama of "The Ash Girl", as Pipers girls took part in their annual school production. Written by British playwright, Timberlake Wertenbaker in 1999, "The Ash Girl" is a dark and intriguing adaptation of the classic Cinderella story.

In preparation for the performances the double cast of over 90 performers spent time unravelling the plot and its exciting characters, focussing on the moments of comedy and exploring the relationships between all the various protagonists.

The story of the play follows the journey of Ashgirl who gradually finds the inner courage she needs to move forward and eventually finds happiness and security by focussing on hope, love and trust.

Lucy McCarthy, who performed the part of "Ashgirl" in two of the four performances said, "I found the learning of lines a challenge but it is so worth it when you all come together for the curtain pull you can't describe the feeling you get its a mix of emotions and pride Definitely a experience I would recommend."

Following the performances, Director Miss Heather Andrew, said "After three months of intensive rehearsals it was wonderful to see the high standard of acting both casts reached and how well they supported each other. Anyone who came to watch the performances could not fail to see how skilfully and confidently the whole cast and technical crews worked together, to bring out all the themes and issues within 'The Ash Girl'. I am so very proud of all the girls involved and grateful to many of our parents who made this production so successful."
