Taking to the Catwalk for Cancer Campaign - 09/07/09

Last night a group of Pipers girls took to the catwalk in order to raise money in support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign. The evening was a great success which resulted in the total that the girls have raised over the course of the academic year amounting to almost £6000.

The fashion show marked the end of a year-long effort on the part of the Pipers Upper Sixth to raise money for this very worthy cause. Previous events have included cake sales, mufti days, a karaoke evening and the raffle of the "Head for a day" experience.

Last night's audience were treated to a feast of fashion as the girls not only modelled some donated items but also pieces made by the girls themselves as part of their textiles studies. Beginning with a parade of skirts made by UIV (Year 9) and UV (Year 10) girls the show also featured work completed by the Sixth Form students on the themes of identity, discord and flowers.

During the second part of the show the girls wore dresses and tops that had kindly been donated for the evening to be included in a silent auction. They also showed off some fabulous accessories including a Murano glass necklace and Marc Jacobs bag which were auctioned off live on stage.

Head Girl at Pipers and one of the event organisers, Charlotte Jeffery, said "We are totally overwhelmed by the amount of support we've received this evening and at all our events this year. We are so grateful to everyone for coming and for making the bids and buying raffle tickets which has enabled us to achieve this amazing sum of money."

The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign supports the work of The Royal Marsden Hospital, the first hospital in the world dedicated to cancer treatment and research into the causes of cancer. The Upper Sixth girls chose the charity due to the fact that one of the prefect's mothers was diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma last year and was successfully treated at the Royal Marsden.
