Girls in UII (Year 4) and LIII (Year 5) were the latest Prep girls to tread the boards as they performed the drama pieces they have been working on this term. The plays "A Suitably Happy Ending" and "Only Joking" each carried a serious message that the girls hoped to get across through their performances.
It was the turn of LIII on Monday as they presented "A Suitably Happy Ending" for the girls in PP2 in the afternoon, before performing it to an audience of family and friends. The play was centred on the fairytale genre of drama and character development. The girls began their performance with a rousing rendition of "Wake up", a song intended to wake up all the characters and introduce them to the audience.

The main aim of "A Suitably Happy Ending" was to show the importance of not arguing about petty matters and to encourage everyone to try to work and live together in harmony.
|
On Friday UII took to the stage as they presented "Only Joking" to girls in LIII, PP2 and parents. A half scripted / half devised piece of work the play considered issues based around bullying. Songs including "Wouldn't it be funny" and "Sometimes I Wonder" questioned why differences matter and why people hurt each other. The play worked as a "Theatre in Education" piece presenting both sides of a situation – what happens when a bullying victim tells an adult and what happens when they keep it to themselves.
|
UII ended their performance with a song entitled "Give it all you've got" a mixture of rap and song, which included the lyrics "We are the children of Pipers Corner, we take a pride in the things we do, working together and having fun, who's for a good time? Everyone!"

Ms Halton, Drama teacher said, "Both groups did extremely well performing their pieces with enthusiasm, professionalism and skill. LIII really enjoyed the fairytale genre and immersed themselves in their characters, whilst UII took on a mature piece of theatre which they handled very well. I am extremely proud of all the girls and the work that they have done this term."
