Girls in Year One learnt all about the benefits of teamwork recently as they were introduced to the classic story of "The Enormous Turnip". Using Drama, English and Art the girls discovered that great things can be achieved by working together.

In the tale, a farmer plants a turnip that grows to be so enormous that he can't pull it out of the ground on his own. In order to finally free it from the earth he has to enlist the help of his entire family one by one, including his pets! Their reward is a delicious dinner made from the turnip.

After reading the story together the girls then took part in a variety of activities in order to deepen their understanding of the moral of the tale.

They worked in groups to dramatise the tale, speaking in clear voices with confident actions.

They also each wrote down the events of the story, taking care to think about the beginning, middle and the end.

In addition the girls produced some wonderful illustrations of the story.

Head of Pre-Prep, Mrs Rushforth said, "I was very proud of the girls as they worked really hard on this project. They seemed to take the moral of the story to heart and did some excellent group work – particularly when they were acting out the story."
