Inspiration Through Dance - 28/10/09

GCSE and A Level Dance students took advantage of the opportunity to work with a professional choreographer this half-term as they honed their own skills in preparation for part of their course syllabus.

The new GCSE and A Level Dance course includes the dance "Overdrive" choreographed by Richard Alston. The girls are required to choreograph their own dance in the style of "Overdrive" and analyse it in detail. To help them generate ideas for this task, a workshop was organised with a teacher from the educational department of the Alston dance company.

During the afternoon that she spent with the girls, the teacher taught a technique class in the Cunningham style followed by some repertoire and then some choreographic ideas, which the girls found really helpful for their own work.

Dance teacher, Miss Hadler said, "It was wonderful to see the girls at their most creative. The workshop really inspired them to try some new techniques and I'm sure that their future performances will be enhanced by this opportunity to work with a professional."
