Girls from Mandeville House demonstrated their community spirit today as they held their annual Harvest Festival Service. Each member of Mandeville came to House assembly with a decorated harvest box to form part of a collection of goods to be distributed to local pensioners living in the High Wycombe area.
During the service the girls considered ideas of generosity and sharing and how helping other people is an essential part of everyday life.
All the girls right down to the very youngest in Pre-Prep were involved. The Pre-Prep girls were especially excited to be able to perform some of the harvest songs they had learnt to the older girls when they went to Woodlands to collect the Pre-Prep offerings.
During the rest of the morning a group of Mandeville girls and teachers took the many gifts out into the local area to make their deliveries.
Headmistress, Mrs Helen Ness-Gifford said, “Harvest is a very special time which allows the girls to reflect on how lucky they are in the modern western world. In an era where they have so many possessions and more than enough to eat and drink it is especially important that they do not forget those who are less fortunate. The Mandeville celebration also allows the girls to reach out into their local community and provides them with a wonderful opportunity to meet and talk to people who they make deliveries to.”
