On Thursday 1 May, GCSE Drama students at Pipers Corner were delighted to share their practical examination performances with their families and friends. Guests had the opportunity to watch a selection of six original pieces of theatre which were performed to an exceptionally high standard.
|
The pieces were written, designed and performed by the girls as part of "Theatre in Education". The idea behind this concept is to use drama to deliver a theme or message to others in a particular age group.
|
Themes tackled by the groups were:
- The importance of looking after the environment.
- An exploration of theatre in the time of Shakespeare.
- Ways of dealing with the pressure placed on young people by the media to look a certain way.
- A time-travelling adventure to learn about ancient Egypt and the Egyptians.
- Finding out about endangered animals in different places in the world.
- A trip into Space to learn about planets and the solar system.

Heather Andrew, Head of Performing Arts said, "Our 30 GCSE drama students performed some very exciting and powerful 'Theatre in Education' pieces for a target audience taken from younger forms in the school, who had been in the examination when the girls were assessed on 30 April and 1 May. The standard of drama was extremely high and demonstrated great skill as well as real ensemble playing with all our students working as part of a team. Parents and friends enjoyed an evening performance which gave them the opportunity to see some of the assessment work the girls have undertaken as part of their 2 year course."
