A group of Lower Sixth Form girls enjoyed a lively debate with boys from Harrow School on Wednesday 30 April. The motion was "This House Supports Polygamy" and it certainly raised a great deal of ethical issues on both sides of the argument.
Speakers for the proposition started the discussion with the argument that monogamy was no longer relevant in the modern age and for economic reasons polygamy could be a conceivable alternative.
The opposition hit back with the reasoning that polygamy would only serve to make society more complicated and more difficult and that human beings by nature embraced the idea of love between two people.

A lively wrangle ensued with each side speaking eloquently to put across their points and answering questions from the floor with considered and measured replies.
At the end of the evening in the final vote the motion was defeated with the majority of people present voting against it.
It truly was a memorable evening and the girls thoroughly enjoyed both visiting Harrow School and the friendly banter of the debate itself.
